The Oregon Grille, Best Restaurant 2010
This horse country mainstay, with its clubby, stately rooms, is perfect for those seeking refuge from the cold—whether we're talking weather, economics, or general global gloom. Within these tradition-bound walls (jackets very much required in the evening), troubles melt, and it's easy to feel pampered, wealthy, and privileged, no matter what's going down outside. A jazz pianist tickles the ivories in the corner as you peruse a menu stocked appropriately with classic preparations of dry-aged prime sirloin strip and massive jumbo lump crab cakes, expertly prepared with quality ingredients and served with panache by a wait staff exuding professionalism. Simple luxuries, such as the lobster cocktail paired with a buttery Sonoma-Cutrer Chardonnay, will make you feel to the manor born, and by the time you've made your way through dinner to the dessert selection, any case of the doldrums will be long gone. Sigh.

To qualify for an award, the list must present complete, accurate wine information. It must include vintages and appellations for all selections, including wines available by the glass. Complete producer names and correct spellings are mandatory, while the overall presentation and appearance of the list is also taken into consideration.

For creative, classic American Cuisine. For lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch. Visit The Oregon Grille and enjoy the most amazing food in the country.
At first glance, The Oregon Grille in north Baltimore County looks too much like an old-world hunt club to serve anything but a good steak and a wedge of iceberg. The dark-paneled interior—reached after passing an honor guard of lawn jockeys—is fastidiously classic, with its horse-themed prints and sports paraphernalia, its leather banquettes, and waiters in formal attire. (Alert: Jackets are required for men in the evenings.) But Chef Stefan Sabo's deft intertwining of color, taste, and texture engages the senses without abandoning tradition.

There's a peaceful air that will permeate your meal from start to finish. You can always count on the Grille to turn out the finest classic American cuisine, from thick steaks and chops to oversized, steamed lobsters. Don't forget to order a mint julep so you can really feel like part of the horsey set.

The Oregon Grille, 1201 Shawan Rd., Cockeysville, 410-771-0505. If you're in the mood for an elegant Sunday awakening, this is the place to go. A creative lobster cocktail (market price; $21 that day) is stellar with two meaty claws, lobster salad, and diced mango drizzled with mint dressing in a martini glass. The Grille Classic ($16) couldn't get any more delicious: crab hash, grilled tenderloin, two poached eggs, and béarnaise and roasted-red-pepper sauces. The eggs Florentine ($13) was another diet buster with poached eggs over creamed spinach hinting of nutmeg and a delicate split puff pastry. Oh, yes, there was hollandaise on it, too.
